Severance Brewing Company

Severance Brewing Company is a Sioux Falls brewery owned by Scott and Melissa Heckel. Scott is the head brewer, and Melissa handles marketing and design. The brewery began as a home brewery in 2010 and opened in 2019, six months before the pandemic. The name nods to Scott leaving a long corporate career, with the brewery serving as a severance package of his own making. The brewery celebrates people willing to sever ties with an unfulfilling path and make a big change. Its motto is Craft Beer Severed From the Norm. Severance beers are not built to fit style guidelines. Recipes are designed backward from a planned result, with a focus on quality, craftsmanship and taste. The brewery tries to keep its environmental footprint small and supports community causes. Its taproom can be booked for events.
